Spoils shared as United hold Arsenal

Anthony Martial celebrates his goal with his team mates

Manchester United, the home side started the better of the both sides dominating early possession and chances with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial firing shots straight at Bernd Leno early in the match.

Arsenal would however come out the blocks mid way through the second half to take charge of the game forcing United to some last gasp defending, the pressure from Arsenal would however pay dividend by yielding a goal in the 26th minute after Skhordan Mustafi headed a Torreira’s corner goalwards with David De Gea making a howler in an attempt to save the ball, the lead was short lived as Man United would grab an equaliser after a Marcos Rojo free kick was pushed away from goal but not far from the onrushing Herrera who squared the ball into the box for an unmarked Anthony Martial tap in, an injury would see Rob Holding replaced by Stefan Lichtsteiner shortly after United’s equaliser .

The gunners would make a change at the start of the second half with the injured Aaron Ramsey coming off for Henrikh Mkhitaryan, it was a drab start to the second half as both sides struggled to create chances, Martial would be taken off in the 63rd minute with an apparent hamstring injury whilst going into a challenge against Sokratis .

Two goals in 2 minutes from Lacazette and Lingard after mistakes from Rojo&Kolasinac, would send some spark back into the game, De Gea would produce a string of routine saves to deny Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang in quick succession. In the 90th minute Mkhitaryan thought he had given his side the win after slapping home a rebound only for the goal to be ruled out for an offside.

That would be the last real action of the game as the game ended in a 2-2 draw, both sides would look to get back to winning ways when Arsenal take on Huddersfield and United take on Claudio Ranieri’s Fulham on Saturday in the premier league.
